Frequently Asked Questions

How is Azelaic Acid different from AHAs or BHAs for acne-prone skin?

Azelaic Acid combines exfoliating, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in a single ingredient — something no standard AHA or BHA achieves alone. It specifically inhibits Cutibacterium acnes (the primary acne-causing bacterium), reduces post-inflammatory redness marks (PIE — the flat red spots left after breakouts), normalises the abnormal keratinocyte activity that leads to clogged pores, and mildly exfoliates without the stronger peeling associated with glycolic or salicylic acid. It is also one of the few actives safe for use during pregnancy (at concentrations up to 20%) and for rosacea.

Is the ANUA Azelaic Acid 10+ Hyaluron Serum safe to use daily?

Yes, with a gradual introduction. Start with once daily for 1–2 weeks and increase to twice daily as tolerated. Azelaic Acid is less photosensitising than AHAs or retinoids and is safe for morning use, though SPF is always recommended.

Why is the ANUA Azelaic Acid 10+ Hyaluron Serum green?

The natural green colour comes from the active ingredients in the formula — including Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (green tea), the multi-component cica complex and other botanical actives — with no artificial dyes added.

Can ANUA Azelaic Acid 10+ Hyaluron Serum be combined with Vitamin C or Niacinamide?

Yes. Azelaic Acid is highly compatible with both Vitamin C and Niacinamide. There is no evidence of negative interaction between these actives and they work synergistically for brightening and redness reduction. You can layer them in the same routine or use them at different times of day.
